This is it in a nutshell...sort of. I am glad that you asked the questions. I have given an honest reply whether others will understand it's not up to me to contend with. It is their choice.
Anything I would like to say about my work would is that, I enjoy when people look at my work and find it so interesting. More so when they take the time to look at the writings in the paintings. That is when the information is received whether they know this or not. Children are my greatest enjoyment in that some of them understand it. Their responses are worth the price of admission.
About myself, I would say that I am on a journey of self realization. In my paintings I have begun to remember fragments of myself that are not attached to a physical framework, and that those parts share information through the paintings. Of this, I am truly blessed and am glad to share with others that they are more than they see in the mirror. Much, much, more. |

What moves you most in life, either to inspire or upset you?
What moves me most in life now is the drive to teach. It has become this is what I need to do, whatever manner I am able to.
Do you prefer a perfect smooth technique or a more energetic expressive technique and why?
I enjoy doing both as I have no idea how the painting will look in the end. With the oils, the painting dictates which colours I will use. In creating the abstracts, the same rule applies. The colours are chosen beforehand by feel. The containers are opened and it goes to canvas. There is no, “ This is what I am going to do”. What comes out on canvas is what comes from deep within myself. |

What technique do you use?
I would say my technique is to create a smooth finish in my paintings when using oils. I avoid leaving brush strokes, if at all possible. When I switch to acrylics from oils, I know I will be doing abstract, so there is no need to hide the brush strokes as I don’t use a brush to create the painting. I would only use a spatula.
Where do you do your work?
There is a studio in the backyard that we use to do artworks in. It was converted from an empty shed to suit our needs.
Do you work from life, or from photographs or from imagination?
I work from photographs some of the time, though most of my work is from, for lack of a better word, my imagination. |

Where do you feel art is going?
I honestly do not know where my art is going. Hanging in Museums would be the end goal. The only understanding I do have at this present moment is that it will become more pronounced in what it has to offer people and what they need to learn in and of themselves. If I was told that I would be doing this kind of art 10 years ago, I would have told you that “I didn’t think so”. Hence the “ I have no idea”. I’m along for the ride like everyone else.
What is the role of the artist in society?
The role of the artist in society is to teach. Through the expression of the artist others can see that there are no limitations, other than the ones we put upon ourselves.
What is the place of your work in society?
My place for my work in society is to awaken that which is quietly pulsing within each of us, waiting to be acknowledged, and understand what we truly are.
Which is more important to you, the subject of your painting, or the way it is executed?
I feel that both are equally important to the work I do. Both styles have their own merits in how the information is sent to the viewer. |
